A Legacy of International Cooperation

The International Buffalo Federation was founded in 1979 during the first World Buffalo Congress held in Cairo, Egypt. Recognizing the need for a global organization dedicated to buffalo science and production, delegates from major buffalo-producing countries established the IBF to coordinate international efforts in buffalo research and development.

Since its inception, the IBF has organized world buffalo congresses every three to four years in different regions of the world, including:

  • 3rd World Buffalo Congress — Varna, Bulgaria (1991)

  • 9th World Buffalo Congress — Buenos Aires, Argentina (2010)
  • 10th World Buffalo Congress — Phuket, Thailand (2013)
  • 11th World Buffalo Congress — Cartagena, Colombia (2016)

Through these congresses and its ongoing activities, the IBF has grown into a respected global network of scientists, breeders, and industry professionals dedicated to the advancement of the buffalo sector.
